Why I Own Five Vacuum Cleaners (And Why I’m Entirely Unashamed)

By Domenica Formulations

Owning five vacuum cleaners might sound excessive, almost indulgent. But in my home, each one has earned its place. I view cleaning not as a chore but as a ritual, one that restores order, clarity and calm. The right tools don’t just make the process easier; they make it enjoyable.

Over the years, I’ve realised that no single vacuum can master every space, every spill and every scenario. Which is why I keep a small fleet. Think of it as a considered collection — each machine chosen for its role, each serving a distinct purpose.

Here’s a look inside my line-up.

1. Dyson V8 — The Upstairs Companion

For more than a decade, Dyson has been my benchmark for reliability. My Dyson V8 lives permanently upstairs, ready to deal with the daily debris that inevitably appears in bedrooms and hallways. It’s lightweight, agile, and powerful enough for quick yet thorough cleans. Importantly, it spares me from hauling a vacuum up and down three flights of stairs — a ritual I have no desire to add to my day.

2. Dyson V11 — The Downstairs Workhorse

Downstairs, life is busier, messier, and far more demanding — which is why I rely on the more powerful Dyson V11. This vacuum is my stalwart companion in high-traffic zones, where children, pets and daily living converge. It tackles everything from crumbs beneath the dining table to the fine dust that seems to materialise out of nowhere. For me, Dyson represents not just performance but longevity — a machine that, with the occasional battery or filter replacement, will keep serving faithfully for years.

3. Tineco iFloor 3 — The Life-Changer

If there’s one cleaning product that has genuinely transformed my home routine, it’s the Tineco iFloor 3 Cordless Wet/Dry Vacuum & Mop. In minutes, I can vacuum and mop the entire downstairs: toddler crumbs, juice spills, muddy footprints — all gone.

The iFloor 3 has been a game-changer for families, especially mothers. While it’s no longer widely available, the latest model — the Tineco iFloor 5 — carries on the same innovation with even better suction, smarter self-cleaning, and upgraded features. If you’re investing today, I’d point you straight to that.

4. Roborock S6 — The Set-and-Forget

Here’s my honest confession: I don’t love robot vacuums. I actually enjoy the act of cleaning, so I miss the satisfaction when a robot does it for me. That said, the Roborock S6 has earned its place in our home. Its mapping technology is precise, it can be scheduled to run while we’re out, and it keeps floors maintained in the background.

The S6 itself is no longer available, but the closest current upgrade is the Roborock Q7T+ — with improved suction, smarter obstacle detection, and an auto-empty dock for even less effort. If I were buying today, that’s the one I’d choose.

5. Ryobi 18V Wet/Dry Vac — The Outdoor Muscle

Outdoors demands a different kind of strength. The Ryobi 18V Wet/Dry Vacuum is built for the grit and mess that would overwhelm a regular household model. Leaves scattered across the alfresco, soil spilled from a toppled pot, or the kind of chunky dirt that comes with children playing outside — this machine handles it all.

It’s rugged, almost industrial in its design, and indispensable for maintaining the spaces that connect indoors with out.

So Why Five?

Because no single vacuum can do it all. In my home:

  • Daily upkeep: Dyson V8 and Dyson V11

  • Transformative deep clean: Tineco iFloor 3 (now iFloor 5)

  • Effortless maintenance: Roborock S6 (now Q7T+)

  • Outdoor resilience: Ryobi Wet/Dry

Together, they create a system that allows me to care for my home with ease and intention. And that’s what cleaning, at its best, should feel like — not laborious, but grounding.
